Writing Great Fantasy Workshop with Rachel Faturoti
Are you ready to explore the magical world of fantasy writing? Join us for a unique workshop with author Rachel Faturoti, where we’ll dive deep into the genre and create our own fantastical worlds.
This workshop is specifically designed for us, Black Women and Women of Colour, creating a safe and supportive space for us to share our unique perspectives and experiences. Rachel will guide us through the process of crafting compelling characters, building intricate plots, and developing immersive settings. Whether you are a seasoned writer or just curious about fantasy, this workshop will provide valuable insights and inspiration to take your writing to the next level.
In this practical workshop, we will cover the following topics:
- Defining fantasy and its subgenres
- Crafting engaging characters
- Worldbuilding
- Structure
We’ll also talk about the publishing process and the current market for fantasy. You will leave the workshop energized and inspired to write, and hopefully, publish your own fantasy fiction.
About the Writer
Rachel Faturoti is an author, editor, screenwriter and poet with a passion for broadening the scope of Black representation in YA and Children’s fiction. Rachel was awarded the inaugural Bernardine Evaristo Scholarship to fund her MA in Creative Writing at Brunel. Her debut middle-grade novel, Sadé and Her Shadow Beasts published in 2022 by Hachette Children’s Group. Finding Folkshore, Rachel’s debut YA novel publishes in April 2023 with Jacaranda Books, and her short story is part of the YA anthology, A Taste of Darkness, which publishes with Scholastic in September.
